Tabbed Interface in Chrome PWAs (Great for Multiple Gmail Accounts)
Tip of the Week!
Gmail is the #1 web page used as a PWA because of the gazillions of folks who use Gmail. The problem has been that most of us have multiple Gmail accounts to check, which forces us back to adding each inbox as a tab in the browser because a web app doesn’t support tabs. And, of course, having multiple tabs open in Chrome can be resource-intensive, plus it’s easy to close a tab or have your Gmail tabs get lost in a sea of other opened tabs.
However, there’s some good news on this front! Google recently added two flags in Chrome, that, when enabled, allow you to add a tabbed interface to your Gmail PWA (on Windows or Mac). Enabling these flags and adding multiple Gmail inbox tabs is a simple 30-second task
One at a time, type these flag URLs into your Chrome browser and select ENABLED.
chrome://flags/#enable-desktop-pwas-tab-strip
chrome://flags/#enable-desktop-pwas-tab-strip-settings
Once you’ve restarted Chrome, you’re good to go! Adding more Gmail accounts as tabs is a breeze – just click your account avatar, select an additional account, and the PWA will open a new tab for that account in the same window. The best part? You can interact with these tabs just like you would in a standard Chrome window, making it easy to switch between accounts and access different Google services.
