Use a Pass Key or Use Strong Passwords

Tip of the Week!

Strong Passwords

Keeping your personal information personal and private is becoming a bigger and bigger challenge.  Some computer users say the best way to keep your private data private is not to computerize it.

At all.

As in, don’t use a computer and don’t go online with any of your information.  As that’s not reasonable or realistic in today’s online age.  So, in order to ensure that your information is protected, you should use a strong password.

Avoid using easily guessable passwords like “password” or “123456” and instead use a combination of letters, numbers, and special characters. Consider using a reputable password manager to generate, store, and autofill complex passwords across your accounts.

A strong password is a string of letters and numbers at least 8 characters in length.  Longer lengths are better than shorter ones.  A strong password should not be something easily guessed, as noted above, and should not be something that is easily associated with you.  In many cases, it’s likely best to use a passphrase, or a stringed together set of upper and lower case words and numbers.

Use a Passkey

Passkeys are a new type of login credential that allow you to log in to sites and services without having to enter a password. There’s nothing to remember and you can use them with the devices you already own like your smartphone or laptop.

Passkeys eliminate the need to remember a complex or long password like those noted above. They are stored in an encrypted format on your device, making them safer in case of a data breach.  Unlike passwords, passkeys rely on possession-based authentication using advanced cryptography, making them more secure.
